Swan’s Agentic Software Factory: Cygnet Evolved
How Swan built an agentic software factory that finds production bugs, reaches consensus on the fix, opens the PR, and proves it works before a human merges.

Bitcoin traded at about $82,900 on October 19, 2026. That is roughly 34% below its all-time high of $126,198, set on October 6, 2025. Big-name forecasts for the next 12 months range from $100,000 (Standard Chartered, end of 2026) to $125,000 (Bernstein, end of 2026), with Citi at $113,000 by October 2027. Their 2030 targets mostly fall between $500,000 and $760,000.
Swan doesn’t predict Bitcoin’s price. This page reports forecasts that analysts and firms have published, with their dates and sources, and checks past forecasts against what actually happened. It is not investment advice.
This page collects the latest published forecasts, the date each one was made, what each target would mean for your money and how earlier calls held up. We update it every quarter.
Price predictions are opinions, not guarantees. Nothing here is investment advice.
Standard Chartered: $100,000 by the end of 2026 (published Feb 2026; said in Aug 2026 it “may be too low”)
Citi: $113,000 within 12 months, to October 2027 (Oct 2026; up from $82,000)
Bernstein: $125,000 by the end of 2026, then $150,000 by mid-2027 (Aug 2026)
JPMorgan: $266,000, long term, not 2026 (Feb 2026)
Standard Chartered: $500,000 by 2030 (Dec 2025)
ARK Invest: $300,000 bear, $710,000 base and $1.5 million bull case for 2030 (Apr 2025)
ARK Invest (Big Ideas 2026): about $16 trillion market cap by 2030, or about $760,000 per coin (Jan 2026)
Bernstein: about $1,000,000 by 2033 (Aug 2026)
Bitwise (Matt Hougan): $1,300,000 by 2035 (Sep 2025)
Michael Saylor: $21,000,000 by 2046 (Jun 2025)
VanEck: $130,000 bear, $2.9 million base and $53.4 million bull case for 2050 (Jan 2026)
Price: about $82,900 on October 19, 2026. It was down about 26% from a year earlier as of October 14.
All-time high: $126,198 on October 6, 2025. That came about 534 days after the April 2024 halving, close to the timing of earlier cycle peaks.
2025: Bitcoin finished the year at $87,509, down about 6%. It was the first year after a halving that ended negative.
2026 so far: Bitcoin fell about 54% from its peak to a low near $57,800 in the last week of June. As of October 19 it was about 43% above that low.
Who holds it: US spot Bitcoin ETFs held 1,284,465 BTC as of October 16, 2026 (about $106 billion at the October 19 price). Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) held 848,517 BTC as of October 18. The US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, created by executive order on March 6, 2025, holds only forfeited coins and has not bought any. On October 14, 2026 the White House said it is focused on securing the coins it already holds before any purchases.
Short-term forecasts were cut sharply in 2026 as the price fell. Some have started to move back up.
Standard Chartered forecast $150,000 for 2026 in December 2025. In February 2026 it cut that to $100,000 and warned the price could first drop to $50,000. In August Geoff Kendrick of its research team said $100,000 “may be too low.” The bank has not formally changed the target.
Bernstein expects about $125,000 by the end of 2026 and $150,000 by mid-2027, with a bull case of $200,000.
Citi raised its 12-month target to $113,000 on October 1, 2026, up from $82,000 set in July. It expects about $5 billion of new money to flow into Bitcoin ETFs over the next year, which it called “slower but stickier.”
Fidelity’s Jurrien Timmer called 2026 an “off year,” with support around $65,000 to $75,000, while calling himself a long-term bull.
Tom Lee (Fundstrat) said $200,000 to $250,000 was possible in 2026 if Bitcoin breaks its four-year cycle.
Most large firms with a 2030 view put Bitcoin between $500,000 and $760,000.
ARK Invest’s April 2025 model gives $300,000 (bear), $710,000 (base) and $1.5 million (bull) for 2030. Its Big Ideas 2026 report implies about $760,000 per coin. In May 2026 Cathie Wood said $750,000 to $1.25 million “in the next five years.”
Standard Chartered still has $500,000 for 2030. It originally expected that by 2028 but pushed the date back in December 2025.
Bernstein expects a cycle peak around $300,000 in 2029, with a bull case of $500,000.
Few institutions publish targets as far out as 2040. The best-known long-range calls are:
Bernstein: about $1 million by 2033.
Bitwise: $1.3 million by 2035.
Michael Saylor: $21 million by 2046.
VanEck: for 2050, a base case of $2.9 million, with a bear case of $130,000 and a bull case of $53.4 million.
The oldest long-range estimate is Hal Finney’s. On January 10, 2009, he worked out that if Bitcoin became the world’s main payment system, with household wealth of $100 trillion to $300 trillion and 20 million coins, each coin would be worth “about $10 million.” It was a thought experiment, not a forecast. The math is worth knowing because it shows how fixed supply drives the long-term case, and why Bitcoin is often compared with gold as a store of value.
Here is what each target implies from the October 19, 2026 price of $82,918, assuming each target is reached at the end of its stated year (Citi’s in October 2027). These are our calculations, not the forecasters'.
$100,000 by end-2026 (Standard Chartered): up about 21%. $1,000 would become about $1,206.
$125,000 by end-2026 (Bernstein): up about 51%. $1,000 would become about $1,508.
$113,000 by October 2027 (Citi): up about 36%. $1,000 would become about $1,363.
$500,000 in 2030 (Standard Chartered): about 6x, or roughly 53% a year. $1,000 would become about $6,030.
$760,000 in 2030 (ARK, Big Ideas 2026): about 9.2x, or roughly 69% a year. $1,000 would become about $9,166.
$1,000,000 in 2033 (Bernstein): about 12x, or roughly 41% a year. $1,000 would become about $12,060.
$1,300,000 in 2035 (Bitwise): about 15.7x, or roughly 35% a year. $1,000 would become about $15,678.
$21,000,000 in 2046 (Saylor): about 253x, or roughly 32% a year.
$2,900,000 in 2050 (VanEck base case): about 35x, or roughly 16% a year.
At $82,918, $1,000 buys about 0.01206 BTC, or about 1.2 million sats. The longer the horizon, the less growth each year a target needs: Saylor’s $21 million by 2046 needs about 32% a year, less than half the pace of ARK’s $760,000 by 2030 (about 69%).
Many of the targets in earlier versions of this article have now come due. Most were too high on timing, even though Bitcoin did set a new all-time high.
Peter Brandt (Feb 2024): $120,000 by Sep 2025. Bitcoin peaked at $126,198 in Oct 2025. Hit.
Peter Brandt (Feb 2024): $200,000 by Sep 2025. Peak $126,198. Missed by 37%.
Bernstein (Jun 2024): $200,000 by end-2025. About $88,000 at year-end. Missed.
Standard Chartered: $200,000 by end-2025. About $88,000 at year-end. Missed; target cut to $100,000.
Tom Lee: $250,000 by end-2025. About $88,000 at year-end. Missed.
Chamath Palihapitiya (Jun 2024): $500,000 by Oct 2025. Peak $126,198. Missed by 75%.
Fidelity’s Jurrien Timmer (demand-based model, data as of May 31, 2022): $100,229 for 2025 if Bitcoin followed the internet’s adoption curve, or $239,578 if it followed cell phones'. Year-end 2025: $87,509. The internet path came within 14.5%; the cell phone path missed by 63%.
Year-end figure: $87,508.83 close on December 31, 2025. Fidelity’s 2025 projections are from the model chart below.
The lesson: analysts often get the direction right and the timing wrong. Buying on a schedule (dollar-cost averaging), rather than around a target date, takes the timing question out of it.
World Bank and Coin Metrics
There will only ever be 21 million Bitcoin. About 20.1 million are already mined (about 95.7%, based on block 972,034 on October 19, 2026), and the next halving, around April 2028, cuts new supply to 1.5625 BTC per block. Our Bitcoin halving guide has the full schedule, and our mining cost guide explains what new coins cost to produce. For why a hard cap matters, see Accepting scarcity and How Bitcoin actually works.

ETFs, public companies and possibly governments now hold a large share of supply, so their buying and selling moves the price. Compare the US funds in our Bitcoin ETF fees guide.

Bitcoin has traded as a hedge against currency debasement. In October 2026, hotter-than-expected inflation figures (September CPI up 3.7% from a year earlier) pushed it lower. For background, see Bitcoin and the true meaning of inflation, the Cantillon effect and the inflation-deflation tug-of-war.
The CLARITY Act, which would have set US market-structure rules for Bitcoin and other coins, failed to advance in the Senate in September 2026. That leaves the SEC and CFTC to make the rules for now.
Peaks have come 12 to 18 months after each halving. 2025 broke the pattern of strong post-halving years, which is part of why forecasts now differ so much. Some analysts argue halvings matter less with each cycle. For the longer arc, see The eras of Bitcoin.

We don’t make price predictions. We think Bitcoin’s fixed supply makes it the best long-term savings technology available, which is why we’re Bitcoin-only. Every forecast above shows how hard short-term timing is. That’s why most Swan clients buy a fixed dollar amount every week or month (dollar-cost averaging) and hold their coins long term in their own custody or a Swan IRA.
Buy automatically every day, week, or month, starting with as little as $10.
Major forecasts range from $300,000 (ARK’s bear case) to $1.5 million (ARK’s bull case). Standard Chartered’s target is $500,000 and ARK’s base case is about $710,000 to $760,000.
Bernstein expects about $1 million by 2033 and Bitwise $1.3 million by 2035. ARK’s 2030 bull case is $1.5 million. None of these are guarantees.
$126,198, on October 6, 2025.
As of October 19, 2026, end-of-2026 forecasts range from $100,000 (Standard Chartered) to $125,000 (Bernstein). Citi’s 12-month target, set October 1, 2026, is $113,000 by October 2027.
Bernstein expects about $1 million by 2033 and Bitwise $1.3 million by 2035. From $82,918 (October 19, 2026), $1.3 million by 2035 would take growth of roughly 35% a year.
For 2026, Fidelity’s Jurrien Timmer sees support around $65,000 to $75,000, and Standard Chartered warned in February 2026 that the price could first drop to $50,000. For 2030, ARK’s bear case is $300,000. For 2050, VanEck’s bear case is $130,000.
At $82,918 (October 19, 2026), $1,000 buys about 0.012 BTC. That would be worth about $6,030 at Standard Chartered’s $500,000 target and about $9,166 at ARK’s $760,000. Forecasts are not guarantees.
No forecast can answer that. About 95.7% of all 21 million Bitcoin had been mined by October 2026, and every long-range target above is higher than the October 2026 price. See Am I too late for Bitcoin?
Around April 2028, at block 1,050,000. See our halving guide.
